ABSTRACT

Heparin resistance has been observed in patients with active severe COVID-19 infection. The red blood cell distribution (RDW), a component of the complete blood count that reflects cellular volume variation, has been shown to be associated with elevated risk for morbidity and mortality in a wide range of diseases. Cutaneous manifestations, RDW, and levels of LD and D-dimer might be useful biomarkers in triage of patients with COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim: Study of clinical manifestations and management of patients with COVID toes and fingers. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: 1,841 patients with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were hospitalized. All patients were divided into two groups: without surgical pathology - 1,693 (91.96%) and with surgical pathology (patients with COVID toes and fingers and abdominal syndrome) - 148 (8.04%). The diagnosis of COVID-19 was made on the basis of clinical data, laboratory test results (PCR test for SARS-CoV-2) and computed tomography of the chest. On admission, in addition to the general laboratory tests, mandatory special methods of examination included determination of D-dimer, procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein, and interleukin-6 (IL-6). RESULTS: Results: Surgical ischemic manifestations were observed in 8.04% of all patients with COVID-19, of which 86.48% presented with ischemic abdominal syndrome and 13.52% with COVID toes and fingers. C-reactive protein and procalcitonin are the markers that may indicate the development of ischemic surgical problems. A direct statistically significant linear correlation was found between the severity of the underlying disease and the mean D-dimer (r = 0.815; p = 0.01). CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The confirmed phenomenon of COVID toes and fingers does not require active surgical tactics. It is necessary to conduct pathogenetic treatment of COVID-19 and dynamic monitoring of its clinical course.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic presented many challenges for the LSU AgCenter 4-H program. To meet social distancing guidelines and ensure the safety of youth and agents, many of programming efforts transitioned to a virtual format. However, the need remained for hands-on learning opportunities. 4-H programming is driven by the motto "learn by doing", and it was paramount that agents provide purposeful and engaging activities. The 4-H Seed-of-the-Month Club is a project club that emerged to meet that need. Agents created a nine-month seed subscription made available to youth across the region beginning in August 2020. With this project, participating youth were provided seeds of various plants, including pine seedlings, rainbow carrots, easter egg radishes, lettuce, green beans, okra, squash and coneflowers. Agents used the LSU AgCenter Louisiana planting guide to select the seeds to offer each month. In the future, agents and youth alike have expressed an interest in continuing to provide horticulture opportunities through the delivery mode of the Seed-of-the-Month Club. Participants were asked to provide top choices for their gardens by receiving carrots, lettuce and green bean seeds for the future.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we explore how computing device use by people with upper extremity impairment (UEI) was affected by COVID-19. Someone with UEI has reduced use of their shoulders, upper arms, forearms, hands, and/or fingers. We conducted six (6) semi-structured interviews with participants with UEI in the US. We found that people with UEI increased computing device use during COVID-19 not only for remote interactions but also in person. Additionally, social distancing for COVID-19 safety created the need for new assistive technology (AT), authentication requirements, and communication platforms, which introduced their own accessibility barriers. We also found that personal protective equipment (PPE) created new barriers during computing device use, which often caused people with UEI to choose COVID-19 safety over the usability of their computing devices. Based on these findings, we describe future opportunities to make computing devices more accessible for people with UEI to manage the shifts in computing device use introduced by COVID-19. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

SARS-CoV-2 is an emerging pathogen first reported in China and rapidly spreads throughout the world. The current study focused on the prevalence of symptoms, leukocytosis, leukocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, and comorbidity in patients resulted positive for COVID-19. About 200 patients were enrolled in the study first screened by ICT and then confirmed by RT-PCR. All the patients have symptoms fever, sore throat and dry cough. However 180 (90%) patients experienced tiredness, aches and pain all over the body in 193 (96%), diarrhea in 160 (80%), conjunctivitis in 64 (32%), headache in 177 (88%), loss of taste and smell in 49 (24%), a rash on skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes in 54 (27%), shortness of breath in 12 (8%), chest pain or pressure in 16 (8%), loss of speech and movement in 4 (2%) patients. 78 (39%) patients were found having co-infections including 23 (29.5%) patients have liver infection, 14 (17.9%) were kidney patients, 16 (20.5%) were heart patients and 25 (32%) were diabetic patients. Leukocytosis were found in 76 (97%) out 78 comorbid patients, while in only 2 (2.6%) non-comorbid patients had leukocytosis. Leukopenia were detected in 122 (61%) non-morbidpatients out of 200 COVID-19 patients. Thrombocytopenia were detected in 118 (59%) COVID-19 patients. The patients with previous cardiovascular diseases and other comorbid conditions may face greater risk of developing the disease into severe form. 51-60 years of individuals are at high risk of getting infection. The hematologic changes are associated with COVID-19 includes thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis, and leukocytopenia.

ABSTRACT

The article systematizes information about various dermatological signs of a novel coronavirus infection – COVID-19. Special attention is paid to the phenomenon of COVID-19-associated angiitis. A clinical case of acroischemia associated with COVID-19 is described: on the 34th day after the onset of infection, a patient developed skin cyanosis of the distal parts of the fingers, which resolved spontaneously after a few days. The need for further research on the skin manifestations of COVID-19 and the development of an effective strategy for managing patients, as well as monitoring the condition of convalescents, is emphasized. © 2022, Ima-Press Publishing House. ABSTRACT

Aim and Objectives: Our study aims at providing comparison of peripheral capillary blood oxygen saturation of hemoglobin (SpO2 values) among every finger of the two hands in healthy subjects with different hand dominance. After collecting different relevant demographic parameters such as age, sex, height, weight, noninvasive blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature and fasting period, SpO2 values were recorded from every finger of two hands with the same pulse oximeter. [2] To measure tissue oxygenation and peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse oximeter is a simple and reliable tool apart from invasive gold standard arterial blood gas (ABG) analyzer. [...]due to increased PI, it shows higher recorded SpO2as studied by modified Allen's test.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to analyze the geographical shape of the earth’s face with the 472319 Hahslm patterns in geomorphology. Earth undergoes the process of forming water and soil so that it becomes a continent and an archipelago. The composition of the sea and land is 7:3. The object of this study is the shape of the sea and land on earth and the Quran 13.31. This research was conducted by studying literature from books, journals, electronic media, and earth globes, and world atlases. The methodology used is descriptive-analytical. The method used is reflexivity, similarity, and dynivity with the formula 472319 Hahslm. The result obtained is the process of changing the shape of the earth’s surface towards a pattern of worship by the meaning of the holy book in the form of cutting the earth according to the meaning of the Quran. The Quran formula 13.31 forms an arrangement of 444 in the form of letter number 13, namely 1+3=4, and from 31, namely 3+1=4. The third pattern 4 is obtained from the number of letters hijaiyaj in the word for cutting the earth as many as 13 letters meaning 1 + 3 = 4. The geomorphological reflectivity of the earth resembles the pattern of 444. With the composition of the oceans and lands of 7:3 which has a difference of four from 7-3=4. In the formula, 472319 Hahslm derived from the Quran 15.87 means the Quran in the form of 6438 verses. The second meaning of 4 is obtained from the multiplication of 7 and 2, namely 7x2=14 by taking the first four words of the fourteenth phrase. And the third meaning of 4 from addition is 3+1+9=13 where the root of digit 13 is 1+3=4. The second geography of the earth is at number 4 from the geomorphology of the continents of Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia which forms a hand pattern of 319. With the tips of small fingers located in parts of countries that have islands located in the eastern to southeastern Asian continents such as parts of Russia, Japan, Korea, China, and the Philippines. Meanwhile, the Southeast Asian region forms the index finger or pattern 1 which has a similarity to the shape of the Indonesian archipelago with the tip being large in Australia and New Zealand. Big finger thumb or pattern 9 has similarities with mainland India, Pakistan, Bangladesh in South Asia. While the Americas have similarities with pattern 7 or V for South America and pattern 2 for North America. Waters and islands are needed in a pandemic that has an economic effect. The conclusion is that the geography of the earth forms 472319 show the earth is worshiping even during the Covid economic era.
